Coleford is a small market town located in the west of Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire just two miles east of the border of Wales. In a census in 2011 the population was 8,359 only slightly increased from the 2001 census which gave a population of 8,351,
Coleford had around eight houses in 1349 and later was described as a street in 1364. The town grew when the commander of a parliamentary garrison in Coleford started a market as the closest other market was in Monmouth.
A market was initially granted in 1661 and a new market house was built in 1679. Following this, a lot more building went on and by 1710, there were thought to be around 160 houses altogether.
As like all towns the range of properties available is vast. From the smaller one-bedroom flats in the centre of town to larger three/four bedroom properties further out in the countryside.
Coleford is popular for being close to the Wye Valley which is a popular destination for walking and canoeing.
